Francis Turbine Features
The Francis turbine features a compact structure and high efficiency, capable of adapting to a wide range of water heads. It is one of the most widely used turbine types globally.
Water flows through the runner radially and exits axially, making it a radial-axial turbine. Suitable for water head ranges from 20 meters to 700 meters, with simple structure, stable operation, and high efficiency. Typically used within medium head range (50-400 meters) with single unit output from tens of kilowatts to hundreds of thousands of kilowatts.
Currently, the maximum output of this turbine type exceeds 700,000 kilowatts. In China, 700 megawatt units operate at the Three Gorges, and the Xiangjiaba Dam employs 800 megawatt Francis turbines.
