Product Overview
The Kaplan turbine is an axial-flow reaction turbine featuring adjustable blades within a tube structure. This design maintains constant flow direction across the rotor, utilizing both kinetic and pressure energy from water for optimal blade rotation in hydro-power stations.
Working Principle
Water enters from the pen-stock into a specially shaped scroll casing that preserves flow pressure. Adjustable guide vanes direct water to the runner blades, with the flow taking a 90-degree turn to align axially with the blades. The runner blades feature a twist along their length to maintain optimal angle of attack across all sections, maximizing efficiency. Water then enters the draft tube where kinetic energy converts to pressure energy, increasing water pressure. The resulting turbine rotation drives generator shafts for electricity production.
